KEVIN GRAEHL

Engineer & builder in San Francisco — embedded systems, electrical & mechanical design, project management, CAD, and custom electric vehicles.
SCROLL
I'm Kevin Graehl — a San Francisco engineer and hands-on builder. I do a little bit of everything, but mostly I like breaking things and rebuilding them better than they started.

My work spans embedded engineering, electrical and mechanical design, project management, CAD, custom electric motorcycles, and battery building — a mix of hands-on hardware and the process work that gets it shipped.

My background includes technical work at Meta and years in the personal electric vehicle world with PEV.works and AlienRides. Those experiences connect the things I enjoy most: solving unusual hardware problems, building practical systems, and documenting enough of the process that someone else can learn from it.

Based in San Francisco. Outside of work you'll find me building custom e-bikes and e-motos, kiteboarding, racing motocross, riding motorcycles, paragliding, and generally not sitting still. I'll tinker with just about anything, and I'm always up for lending a hand — or a tool — to a neighbor. Around my corner of the Marina, they call me the mayor. Harlee is the watchdog.

This page is the hub for everything — my projects, my socials, and how to reach me.

The Scotch Chair

a Facebook Marketplace chair → an electric skateboard → a project

I was planning on just bringing this chair into the house — picked it up from a Marketplace listing. Instead I brought it home strapped to an electric skateboard.

I rode it slowly at first. Then faster. Then faster still, until it was obvious: this thing has to get built out properly.

I've only had it since July 29th and I'm already at 150 miles on it. It's absurd amounts of fun — every friend and neighbor who's ridden it wants their own.
